Glug Ltd was formed in September 2004 by David Walkden and was a result of 15 years of frustration, working in the Drinks industry. As a senior level executive in a number of major drinks companies, in the manufacturing and distribution sectors, David realised that he was not alone in his desire to produce products that customers really wanted.

The market is flooded with products that the major brand owners create as extensions of already successful ranges. It was the lack of credible, quality products, that incorporated real brand principles at realistic prices that gave the impetus to start Glug.

Whilst scouring the world and home markets for credible products to add to the Glug Portfolio, David became interested in the heritage and boundless diversity of Tequila and Tequila packaging. Having so many distilleries and a relatively small home market, the Tequila producers had gone to great lengths to enhance the profile of their brands, by introducing some of the most beautiful Artinisal packaging known in the world of drinks.

From lowly beginnings, importing Tequila Mixto brands such as Rancho Viejo De Los Altos and El Bandido Negro and creating brands such as La Chica and Scorpion Tequila, the business grew to the extent that it was possible to start importing 100 % Agave tequila

With so much choice, it was a difficult task choosing which brands to work with. It was decided that packaging would not be the only deciding factor when it came to filling the Glug portfolio. Quality and taste, artinesal production and packaging, and most of all and interesting story and background were also deemed as important.

Hence Tequileno was chosen as the house 100% Agave tequila as this brand whilst known well in Mexico and the USA had previously upon the direction of the father of the company, not been sold to the ‘Gringo’

El Conde Azul is manufactured in a distillery solely staffed by women. The tequila is oxygenated to produce a smoother tasting product, characteristic of the women who produce it

Gran Sol is 100 % hand made, from the throwing of the ceramic bottle, the tequila production and the hand painting of each individual bottle.

Sangre Azteca has probably one of the most distinctive bottles on the market, beautiful tequila, yet doesn’t cost the earth
